Blessed through a graceful voice and a wide range, Fitzgerald could outswing anyone, was a frothing scat singer, and had near-innocent elocution; one could always understand the speech she sang. The one fault was that, allowing for she always sounded so happy to be in possession of existence singing, Fitzgerald did not continually hoe below the surface of the lyrics she interpreted...
